Make sure your cable has adequate shielding for the application. In moderately noisy environments, foil alone may provide adequate protection. In noisier environments, consider braiding or a foil-braid combination.<\/p>\n
Use cable that is appropriate for the application. Cables that experience repeated flexing typically use a spirally wrapped shield rather than a braid. Avoid using pure foil shields on flexible cables because continuous flexing can tear the foil.<\/p>\n
Make sure the device the cable is connected to is properly grounded. Use ground whenever possible and check the connection between the ground point and the device. Eliminating noise depends on a low resistance path to ground.<\/p>\n
Most connectors are designed to allow for a full 360\u00b0 termination of the shield. Make sure the connector provides the same shielding as the cable. For example, many common connectors have metal-coated plastic, cast zinc, or aluminum backshells. Avoid over-specifying and paying more than you need, or under-specifying and getting poor shielding performance.<\/p>\n
Connect a ground connection at one end of the cable. This eliminates the possibility of ground loops that could create noise.<\/p>\n
