The positive and negative terminals of a general lithium battery are connected to the negative and positive caps through internal nickel tabs (nickel-plated copper) or aluminum tabs. Of course, the design of the tabs has an important influence on the current capacity. The following introduces the tab design theory.

1. Theoretical parameters of the lug material

(1) The safe current carrying value of nickel tabs is 11-13A/mm2, the conductivity of nickel is 140000 S/cm, and the melting point is 1200℃～1400℃.

(2) The safe current carrying value of the copper tab is 5-8A/mm2, the electrical conductivity of copper is 584000 S/cm, and the melting point is ≈1000℃.

(3) The safe current carrying value of the aluminum tab is 3-5A/mm2, the conductivity of nickel is 369000 S/cm and the melting point is ≈660℃.

2. Theoretical design of the influence of the geometric position of the tab on impedance

The farther the current collector (foil) is from the tab, the weaker the overcurrent;

The average current value is half of the current collector. Simply put, the effective impedance Reff is half of the current collector impedance Ro.

Reff = Rc/2 or Ra/2

② Ra is the negative current collector impedance value
