With the advancement of technology and the continuous evolution of market demand,Photovoltaic IndustryThe latest market dynamics show that the photovoltaic market is increasingly fragmented, with a serious oversupply of backward production capacity on one side and insufficient supply of advanced production capacity on the other, and the industry chain is caught in a melee from top to bottom.

The industry is experiencing a critical transition period from the P-type era to the N-type era

Currently, the photovoltaic industry is experiencing a critical transition period from the P-type era to the N-type era. P-type products are gradually withdrawing from the market, resulting in a comprehensive collapse in the prices of P-type silicon materials, silicon wafers, batteries, and components. In order to adapt to the new changes, many related companies have to suspend production and carry out technological transformation in order to survive in the fierce market competition. However, those companies that cannot upgrade their technology to adapt to the N-type era may eventually be forced to withdraw from the market due to losses.

The changes in the silicon material market are particularly eye-catching, and the trend of accelerated elimination of P-type materials is obvious. The latest silicon material price data shows that the average transaction price of N-type materials is 67,800 yuan/ton, while the price of P-type silicon materials is still falling, resulting in a gradual widening of the NP price gap. This differentiation trend has become more obvious since the end of 2023. The downstream market demand for P-type and N-type materials has gradually differentiated, and P-type products have gradually been eliminated by the market.

Silicon material companies in the upstream of the photovoltaic industry chain are facing severe challenges. Companies should not only pay attention to the fluctuation of silicon material prices, but also focus on cost issues. Although some leading companies can still make considerable profits under the current market conditions of P-type silicon material prices of 50,000-60,000 yuan/ton, other non-leading companies may have to face the dilemma of loss-making production. The gap in operating rates between different types of companies in the industry is also gradually widening.

Demand for N-type silicon increases

With the increase in the downstream market share of N-type products, coupled with the successful conversion of some P-type silicon wafer production capacity to N-type production capacity, the demand for N-type silicon materials has increased, providing effective support for the price of N-type silicon materials, and may even lead to price stability or even rebound. At present, the number of companies that can produce N-type silicon materials is limited, including a few companies such as Tongwei Co., Ltd., Daquan Energy and GCL. In contrast, other companies that mainly produce P-type materials may face the dilemma of producing at a loss, which may lead to a reorganization of the market structure within the photovoltaic industry, and ultimately form a market structure of a few leading companies.

In the changes in the silicon material market, the price of P-type silicon wafers showed signs of rebounding for the first time and temporarily stabilized. However, the demand for P-type silicon wafers has dropped significantly, and the introduction of new silicon wafer sizes also indicates the market's demand for higher power components. Although prices have stabilized for a short time, the demand for P-type may still weaken, and it is difficult for prices to continue to rise.

In the cell market, although prices have shown signs of stabilization, there is still uncertainty as to whether they can continue to rise. Photovoltaic cells have experienced a year of ups and downs, especially the sluggish demand for P-type 182mm cells, which has led to significant production cuts and shutdowns of production lines. In the current market environment, the stabilization of cell prices is mainly affected by supply and demand, but downstream demand is weak and old production capacity has not been completely cleared, making it difficult to support continued price increases.

Competition in the module market is more intense than in the battery market. Although the industry generally believes that module prices have fallen to the limit, in fact, prices are still falling. The current module market is still in a trough period, and production is expected to drop by 14% month-on-month compared with December last year. Module manufacturers have a clear trend of reducing production, and inventory is still a factor restricting price rebound. The intensity of the price war has even exceeded market expectations, and the lowest bid for P-type modules has set a record. The price war in the module market is irrational.

In general, the photovoltaic industry is currently facing the most intense period of internal competition.
